Obituary of Edmund Carser

WATERBURY- Edmund William Carser, 101, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, with his family at his bedside on March 18, 2016 at the Middlebury Convalescent Home. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Briday (Clisham) Carser whom he was married to for 51 years. He was born June 16, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY son of Italian immigrates the late John and Carmela (Vassallo) Carserino. He was instrumental in establishing the Peach Orchard Road neighborhood of East Mountain in Waterbury. Edmund was a graduate of Crosby High School Class of 1932 where he was a member of the undefeated football team. He was also a member of the rifle team and chess club. He graduated from the RCA Institute of Electronics Engineering in New York, NY; as well as completing classes at Yale University. He was the Vice President and General Manager of Lewis Engineering prior to his retirement. He was instrumental in design and production of aircraft instruments used during World War II. Edmund was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family. In his free time he was a member as well as Commodore of the Quassapaug Yacht Club, and the Waterbury Elks Lodge #265. He was an avid golfer, gardener, and tennis player. He also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, traveling (especially his trips to Italy and Europe), and ballroom dancing with his wife Briday. He is survived by three daughters Diane Carser of Arlington, MA, Sherry and her husband Russell Mitchell of Waterbury, and Bridget and her husband Luis Arias of Waterbury; two grandchildren Matthew and Megan Arias; five step grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren; three step great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sons Edmund William Jr., Bruce Allan, and Edmund John Carser; two brothers Nick and William Carserino; five sisters Laura Ciriello, Angela D’Ambrose, Viola Zambrello, Mary Albino, and Rosemond Rompre; two step sons Paul Mascola and Lou Mascola Jr.; and one step great great grandchild. The family would like to thank the staff at Middlebury Convalescent Home and the memory impairment unit at the Village at East Farms for all of their loving and dedicated care. Arrangements- Edmund’s funeral will start 9:15 A.M, Tuesday, March 22, 2016, from The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 270 West Main St, Waterbury, 06702 and proceed to The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016 from 5 to 8 P.M at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to St. Mary School, 43 Cole Street, Waterbury, 06706.
