Hello Ivona,
I just learned of Paul's passing the end of last week and was heartsick. We have all lost a very special human being. I want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I have known Paul through the CF Foundation for over 20 years. Our son Christopher Barnes was born with CF. He died in a tragic car accident in 2012 and Paul was so caring to us with our loss. Christopher was an honoree at the Society Room in 2010 which Paul and the CF Team had worked. I worked at IAE International Aero Engines AG and Paul worked closely with the IAE Team for several large events to promote funds for research for CF. David Lee from Rolls Royce (IAE) was a very close friend of Paul's.
I am so sorry that I did not learn of this earlier so that I could attend the services. I last saw Paul in September at the biking event in Cheshire. I remember giving him a big hug and a kiss on the check. He was a very gifted man and I know that my husband and I feel very honored to have had the privilege of meeting him.
We did meet you Ivona at an event in Granby. Paul loved you so much.
With our deepest sympathy,
Ann & Dick Pettee

Words may not truly honor Paul and all he stands for. Paul was the first person who I met and welcomed me to the foundation one random February day in 2001. Hisquick wit and candidness only reinforced why I had to volunteer here. Thank you for sharing your life Paul, your legacy is bigger than any other,

Paul was such a beloved person, friend, and colleague..to so many of us. He will live on in our hearts and we will carry on his legacy of finding a cure. Deepest condolences to the entire wonderful family. This deep loss is felt by so many but we will all be here for each other and for the family. Paul was one of the most kind, wonderful, talented, smart, fun, and funny human beings. He made the world a better place. And...we are all so much better because we knew him and we will always call him a true and loyal friend.

I knew Paul and cared for him throughout his time with his kidney transplant. He will always be one of my most special patients. His dry sense of humor; his sense of what was important and his never, ever complaining or feeling sorry for himself, as many patients could with the burden of disease he carried. In recent years, I would chastise him for missing visits or not doing what he said he would do or letting medical issues go. I eventually realized that this was all his way of handling what he had to handle and making a statement that he was going to live fully as best as he could rather than take care of every medical detail that needed attention. I respected him for that.
I have to say that I think I learned more from Paul than he ever learned from me. It was a privilege to take care of him and I will never forget him.

My deepest condolences for your loss. Paul was such an inspirational person and a beacon of hope to my family and me. My daughter Mandie was diagnosed with CF before she was a year old and has been fighting her own battle for 23 years. We had the opportunity to meet and work with Paul during our time in West Hartford, and had the chance to see him "work his magic" on many occasions. He was loved by so many of us and touch so many lives. I pray for God's peace to rest on you all in this sad sad time.

Paul has been an inspiration to me since our first meeting in 2001. He called to see if he could caddie for Boomer Esiason at the Canon Greater Hartford Open. During the event Boomer kept asking Paul if he needed help with his bag. NO!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!! After the 5th or 6th hole Boomer stopped asking. Boomer also realized that Paul wanted to be "normal" and not treated with such fragility. It was a great learning moment for us both. We had a much greater understanding of how CFers wanted to be viewed and treated. That was the first of many lessons that came from our time with Paul. He will be greatly missed.

To the Drury Family
My deepest sympathies on the passing of Paul. What a beautiful write up of his life. He did live more than a lot of us in his time with us. I remember he was always quick with a comment on just about everything, but I think that runs in the genes.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Cherish all the memories of the time well spent with Paul and hold them close.
Sincerely,
Tom (Mutt)

It was an honor and privilege to know Paul. I loved his sense of humor and wit among other things like his ability to paint masterpieces! We lived on the same floor up at UCONN for a few years and always had fun. He was always in on our poker games and was an adept player and always added to the fun. Like others know, he NEVER complained about anything (lots of us didn't know he had CF issues cause he chose not to share or burden any of his friends with the sadness that accompanies the disease). Will miss him and his amazing spirit. Condolences to his family.

I am so saddened to hear of Paul's passing. What an amazing person he was. I loved his sense of humor and witty banter. Even if I had not seen him in a few months, he would always crack a joke and have that sly smile. He was the type of person that you always looked forward to catching up with and talking to. What he did for raising awareness for CF is immeasurable.
He was such an inspiration to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife and family.
You will truly be missed, Paul.
