Obituary of Nelson Hart

Mr. Nelson P. Hart, 76, of 28 Buckingham St., died Wednesday morning, Jan. 30, 2008 at the Waterbury Hospital. Mr. Hart was born in Waterbury, Aug. 20, 1931, a son of the late Howard P and Doris (Variell) Hart and attended St. Margarets-McTernan School and the Taft School and graduated from Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs, Colo. in 1949 and was a graduate of Colby College in 1956. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served from 1951 to 1953. He was employed by Rafferty-Brown Steel Co. from 1959 to 1974 as Purchasing Manager and was the owner of Curtis Art Co., from 1974 until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Hart had been active in the Waterbury community, having served as an agent for the Silas Bronson Library, a former Director and past President of the Anderson Boys Club, a former Trustee and past President of the Waterbury Foundation and was presently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Riverside Cemetery Association and Chairman of the Finance Committee. He was formerly active with the Maine and Conn. Wings of the Civil Air Patrol, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. He had been active with the Republican Party in Waterbury and was a former member of the Town Committee. He had twice run for the General Assembly. He was a former member of the Waterbury Club and a Director of Platt Brothers & Co. His hobbies included traveling and photography and he enjoyed his visits to Alaska and the South West., sharing his photos following his trips with all his friends. He leaves his brother, H. Spencer Hart of Charlotte, N.C.; several nieces and nephews, and his faithful companion Brunny. He was predeceased by another brother, Curtiss V. Hart. Family and friends are invited to Mr. Harts home on Sat. Feb. 12th between 1 and 4 p.m. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 70 Central Ave. is in charge of arrangements.
