Obituary of Louis M. Yavetz M.D.
Louis M. Yavetz, M.D. passed away on November 5, 2018 at the age of 98. Dr. Yavetz lived most of his life in Waterbury, CT, enjoying his later retirement years in his home in Southbury, CT. He left the area due to illness to be closer to his daughter. Dr. Yavetz was educated in Waterbury schools, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University, and his medical degree from New York Medical College. Following medical school, he served in the U.S. Army as a Captain, stationed in San Antonio, Texas and the Panama Canal.
Dr. Yavetz practiced medicine in Waterbury for over 40 years. He was an “old-time” doctor, making house calls with his black bag, attending to his patients at all hours of the day and night. He continued to educate himself to developments in medicine. An excellent doctor and diagnostician, he was respected by his patients and colleagues.
From a young age, Dr. Yavetz was a talented artist. Painting was his relaxation. He exhibited at galleries throughout Connecticut, winning awards. He also received commissions for paintings.
Dr. Yavetz was pre-deceased by his wife of 59 years, Judith L. Yavetz. He is survived by his daughter, Dava L. Yavetz, and her husband David Lacher; granddaughters, Samantha Lacher (Joshua Lieberson) and Ana Lacher; and great-grandchildren, Jonah Lieberson and Miriam Lieberson.
Graveside service and burial will be at 12:00 noon Wednesday, at Hebrew Benefit Cemetery, Stillson Road, Waterbury, CT. Shiva will be observed at the home of Dava Yavetz, 46 Sara Lane, New Rochelle, NY Wednesday and Thursday (November 7 & 8) 7:00 – 9:00 PM with Minyan at 7:30 and Friday, November 9 until noon. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 496 Chase Ave, 06704 is assisting the family with the arrangements.
