Obituary of Robert Beterini
CHESHIRE - Robert L. Betterini, a resident of Cheshire for 30 years, died peacefully at home, April 12th, with his family close by after a long illness. Son of the late Mario and Lena (Baruffi) Betterini, he was born and raised in New Britain. He received his B.S. Degree with distinction in Industrial Arts Education from Morehead State University in Kentucky. He also received his M.A. degree in Guidance Counseling from Morehead State University. He leaves a wife Joanne (Fleming) and a daughter Kate Elizabeth, both of Cheshire. Robert leaves one brother, William Betterini, his wife Sherrill, and niece, Anne Marie of Rocky Hill. Other survivors are brother-in-law, John Fleming, and his wife Ann of Hamden; uncle, Adolph Betterini, of Kensington; uncle, Anthony Baruffi, and his wife Mae of New Britain; and many cousins and friends. As a young man, he worked as a Detail Draftsman for the former Landers, Frary, and Clark of New Britain. He also taught Industrial Arts for 31 years in Durham at Coginchaug Regional High School. While teaching and during retirement he had numerous articles published in technical education and woodworking magazines. He was a member of The Church of the Epiphany in Cheshire where he worked as a handyman after retirement. He created the outdoor Stations of the Cross there. He loved woodworking and was a master at designing and building furniture as well as customizing different areas in his home. Bob was an avid tennis player and won many local tournaments. Stringing tennis racquets for individuals and school tennis teams was also a favorite pastime. He will be remembered as a sensitive, loving gentleman and devoted family man who fully appreciated his family, friends, and life itself. Arrangements; Funeral services for Mr.Betterini will be held on Thursday April 17 at 9:15 am from the Slater Funeral Home 242 South Main St , to the Church of the Epiphany for a Mass at 10:00. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home , Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
