Obituary of Hannah Downie

Mrs. Hannah Mae (Cooke) Downie, 100, of 139 Forest Ridge Rd., Waterbury, died early Sunday morning at her home. She was the wife of the late Thomas A. Downie who died in 1996. Mrs. Downie was born in Quarryville, N.Y., Jan. 15, 1908 a daughter of the late Russell and Alida (Holden) Cooke and moved to this area in the late 30s She was a member of the First Congregational Church, The Waterbury Club, The Country Club of Waterbury and had been active with the Waterbury Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Downie and her husband were longtime supporters of various civic and arts organizations in Waterbury. Their generosity, commitment to support vital services in their community andlove of the arts will live on as their legacy.She leaves several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 222 West Main St. Burial will be in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
