Obituary of Mary Pleines
Plainville- Mary (Hannigan) Pleines, 87, of Plainville, loving wife of over 65 years to William H. Pleines, passed away on May 1, 2008 at Highlands Health Care Center, Cheshire after a short illness. Mary was born in New Haven on January 7th, 1921 the daughter of Thomas J. and Mabel (Lynch) Hannigan. She resided in New Haven for 21 years, West Haven for 20 years, and in Cheshire for 44 years. She was a proud and devoted wife to her husband, Bill and mother of their four sons, William, Jr. and his wife Anne of South Windsor, Robert and his wife Susan of Harwich, MA, Richard and his wife Cathy of New Haven, and Michael and his wife Lori of Plainville. Until her retirement, Mary was employed at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden. Mary loved to travel with Bill especially to New York to see the Rockettes at The Radio City Christmas Show and the Yankees in the Bronx. Mary provided a wonderful and supportive home to her husband and children. Their home was always a source of welcome to all of the childrens friends in good times and bad. She was a wonderful cook and in charge of the menu at the famous Sunday cook-outs and holiday dinners. Marys husband Bill preceded her in death on March 2nd of this year. Mary is survived by two brothers, John T. Hannigan and his wife Carol of Madison, Wisconsin, Thomas J. Hannigan Jr. and his wife Rita of West Hartford; and two sisters, Sister Melanie Hannigan, O.P. of New Haven, and Ruth Broadhead of Jacksonville, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren; William T., Melanie, Lisa, Thomas, Michael, Kristin, Matthew, Timothy, and Russ; and 5 great grandchildren; Nicole, Samantha, Joseph, Calvin, and James. Mary is predeceased by her sister Evelyn Coutts; her brother-in-law Donald Coutts; and brother-in-law Robert Broadhead. Arrangements- A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday May 6, 2008, 9:15 from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main Street, Cheshire to Saint Bridgets Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery.
