Obituary of Sam Carmack II
CHESHIRE; Mr. Sam A. Carmack, 2nd, 73, of Cheshire, beloved husband of Elaine (Prestwood) Carmack, died Sunday May 18, 2008, at his home after a short illness. Mr. Carmack was born in Andalusia, Alabama, the son of the late Sam and Ruth (McLeod) Carmack and has been a resident of Cheshire since 1977. He was educated at Tulane University, Kenyon College and Harvard University. He was an editor at Harper and Row and the Wesleyan University Press. Later he managed a classical record store in New Haven. Besides his wife, he is survived by Carolyn and Stan Sikes, his sister and brother-in-law of Fort Lauderdale, FL, his son and daughter-in-law, Alex and Robin Carmack of Coventry, CT, his daughter Catherine Carmack of Cheshire, CT, his cherished grandchildren, Christopher and Catherine Carmack of Coventry and his niece and nephew, Riley Blount and Britt Sikes. No services are planned and burial will be at the convenience of his family. The Slater Funeral Home 242 South Main Street, Cheshire is in charge of arrangements.
