Obituary of Charles Slocum

Cheshire - Charles D. Slocum, 82, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Geraldine (Ross) Slocum.He was born on April 5, 1926, in Canandaigua, New York, a son of Hugh D. and Mildred (Ellis) Slocum. He grew up and attended grammar and high school, in Geneva, New York. He served in the US Army Air Force during World War II and attended the University of New Hampshire, in Durham, New Hampshire before moving to Cheshire, Connecticut, in 1955. He was an Architect, registered in the State of Connecticut and a member of the American Institute of Architects. He retired from the Connecticut State University in 1992, where he had been the Director of Facilities Planning and Engineering. He was a communicant of St. Thomas Becket Roman Catholic Church in Cheshire.Besides his wife of 60 years, Mr. Slocum is survived by his four sons and their wives, Shaun and Nancy Slocum, Kevin and Kathleen Slocum, Timothy and Kristen Slocum and Kyle and Cynthia Slocum, and a daughter, Sharon King. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, Christopher, Melissa, Gretchen, Kipp, Nathan, Brigham, Emily, Kirk, Rachel, Spencer, Bridget, Cameron and Thatcher, and 2 great grandchildren, Ingrid and Andrew. He leaves a brother Joseph A. Slocum of Salt Springs, Florida. He was predeceased by a son, Kerry E. Slocum. Arrangements Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 5, 2008, 9:15 from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 S. Main St., Cheshire to St. Thomas Becket Church for Mass at 10 am. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
