Obituary of Joseph Kane
Joseph R. Kane, 82 of Naugatuck, Connecticut died Tuesday June 17, 2008 at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury after a full and rewarding life. He was the husband of Jeanne (Burke) Kane. He was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on October 10, 1925, a son of the late Dora (Larner) Kane and Joseph P. Kane and has been a lifelong resident of Naugatuck. He graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1942 and honorably serviced his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy and the 6th Marine Division serving in the Pacific Theater. Joe was employed by the United States Postal Service serving at the Naugatuck Post Office for over 38 years. Prior to his retirement in 1984 he last served as Superintend of Mail in Naugatuck and was a long standing member of Crusader Post # 1946, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Following his retirement, he and his wife split their time between their Naugatuck home and a winter home in Sarasota, FL. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, and his four children; Barbara J. Kane of Melbourne, FL., Joseph R. Kane, Jr. of Vero Beach, FL.; Brian G. Kane of Naugatuck, CT, owner of B.Kane Electric and Beverly Kane Sonnone of Orlando, FL.; three grandsons; three granddaughters and six great granddaughters as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins. Mr. Kane was also predeceased by his brother John L. Kane of Naugatuck. His funeral will be held on Friday at 10:15 am from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. and proceed to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 pm.
