Obituary of Lewellyn Griswold
OXFORD- Mr. Lewellyn R. Griswold, 88, of 37 Old Towantic Hill Rd., Oxford, died unexpectedly Wednesday June 25,2008 at the Waterbury Hospital. Mr. Griswold was born in Oakville, Dec. 26, 1919, a son of the late Loyal and Lydia (Beers) Griswold and had been an Oxford resident for over 60 years, having formerly lived in Middlebury and Oakville. He retired in 1985 from Risdon Mfg. Co., with over 40 years of service. He was a WW II, U.S. Army Air Corps veteran having served in the American Theater, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of the Oxford United Church of Christ-Congregational, and was an avid golfer, having been a member of several leagues at East Mountain Golf Course in Waterbury, for over 30 years, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Waterbury, playing in their golf leagues. and the 19th Hole golf league. He was also a member of the 25 year club of the Risdon Mfg. Co. He leaves three sons, David L. Griswold and Russell W. Griswold and his wife, Phyllis all of Waterbury, and William J. Griswold and his wife Jane of Oxford; two daughters, Linda L. Griswold and Dorothy G. Marple and her husband Thomas all of Vernon; one brother Charles Griswold and his wife Gertrude of Oxford; 6 grandchildren, Mark Sofia, Lisa Sofia, Anna Sofia, Jennifer Griswold, Jason Griswold and William Griswold, Jr.; 6 Step-grandchildren, Mandy, Katie, Shawn, Susan, Emily and Jo-El and 2 great-grandchildren, Brianna and Alex. and his longtime companion of 20 years, Pauline Martino of Derby. Funeral services will be held on Monday June 30th at 9:15 a.m. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. to the Oxford United Church of Christ-Congregational, 3 Academy Rd., Oxford for services at 10 am. Burial will follow in Southford Cemetery, Oxford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Ambulance Corps.., P.O.
