Obituary of William Kohnke

Mr. William O. Kohnke, 94, of Bloomfield, formerly of Cheshire died Wednesday September 3, 2008 at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Catherine Kitty (MacFarlane) Kohnke. Mr. Kohnke was born January 31, 1914 in Rockville Centre, NY a son of the late Otto C. and Emma (Wichern) Kohnke and had lived in Cheshire from 1969 to 2005. He was educated in Rockville Centre Schools and was a 1933 graduate of Nichols College and a 1935 graduate of NYU. He was an Auditor and later worked in Employee Benefits at US Rubber/Uniroyal in New York City and Southbury, CT, retiring after 42 years of service. Mr. Kohnke was a US Army veteran serving during WWII in the 36th Engineer Regiment. He was a member of the Cheshire Lutheran Church and enjoyed golf, bowling and bridge. He leaves his son, Andrew W. Kohnke of West Hartford and his grandchildren, James and Dora Kohnke both of West Hartford. He was predeceased by his sister Viola Becker. Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours.
