Obituary of Mary Stopper

NAUGATUCK -- Mary Elizabeth (Borisuck) Stopper, 89, of 135 Golden Hill Street Extension in Union City, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008. She was the beloved wife of Norbert Stopper, as well as a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Stopper was born May 19, 1919, in Beacon Falls, daughter of the late Feodor and Eilena (Misukewich) Borisuck. She grew up in Naugatuck and graduated from Naugatuck High School. After high school, she joined the U.S. Army as part of the Women's Army Corps (WAC), serving at bases in Florida and Pennsylvania, during WW II.. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Union City, where she also served as a past president of the Altar Society. Throughout her adult life, she was a homemaker, and enjoyed spending summers in Vermont with her husband during their golden years. She adored her grandchildren and was blessed to spend time with her great-grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy and love into the last years of her life. Besides her husband of 65 years, she is survived by a daughter, Loretta Lambert of Oakville, and her husband Tom; three sons, Martin Stopper of Clarks Summit, Pa., and his wife, Adrienne, Anthony Stopper of Watertown and his wife, Carolyn, and Carl Stopper of North Haven, and his wife, Deba brother, John Borisuck of Palmer, Alaska, formerly of Naugatuck; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Walter Borisuck, is deceased. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. to St. Marys Church, 338 North Main St., Union City for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10:30a.m. until the procession leaves for church.
