Obituary of Penelope Chmura
Mrs. Penelope Penny (Wood) Chmura, 58, of 64 Deep Brook Harbor, Suffield, left this world in the presence of her family, holding her husbands hand early Tuesday morning Sept. 30, 2008 at Hartford Hospital. She was the wife of John Jack Chmura.Penny was born in Waterbury, March 21, 1950, a daughter of the late Frederick West Wood and Donna (Lillie) Wood and had been a resident of Suffield for the past 15 years, having formerly lived in Port St. Lucie, Fla. and having been raised in Cheshire, where she was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church. She was a graduate of Cheshire High School, Class of 1968 and loved animals. She enjoyed collecting Santa Clauses, having over 3000 in her collection. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Robert Siegal and his nurse, Anne for the exceptional care they provided Penny, enabling her 6 more months with her family. Besides her husband of 32 years, she leaves 4 daughters, Barbara Norton, of Cheshire, Casey Stevenson of Cheshire, Courtney Chmura of West Springfield, Mass. and Christine Owens of Cheshire; two sisters Candace Barrow of Gorham, ME. and Tracy Kellas of East Haven.; a Sister-in-law, Pamela Chasse of Plymouth, Mass. an Aunt, Annabelle Wood of St. Petersburg, Fla. and 11 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Debbie Wood.A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2nd at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 59 Main St., Cheshire. Following the service, everyone is invited to a reception at the Waverly Tavern Restaurant, 286 Maple Ave., Cheshire. There are no calling hours. The Slater Funeral Home, 242 So. Main St., Cheshire is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Lung Cancer research, P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, 06450-1004.
