Obituary of Lillian Kempler

Lillian Kempler, who had just celebrated her 90th birthday, passed away peacefully on October 17th in Waterbury where she was born and lived her entire life. She and her husband were the proprietors of Beers dress store, a downtown Waterbury shop that had been owned and operated by her family for many years. Lillian will be remembered for her keen intelligence, acerbic wit, creative storytelling and her unfailing recollection of local history. She was preceded in death by her parents, Celia and Hyman Beer, her sister Regina Beer Lichtenstein and her husband Philip Kempler. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Kempler of Washington, DC, nieces Claire Jane Lichtenstein of Santa Fe, NM and Andra Lichtenstein Glover of Berkeley, CA, and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by a number of dear, long-time friends as well as by her loving caregivers, Maggie and Louise. She will be very much missed. There will be no public funeral.
