I only worked with Val for a short while at The Hartford, but long enough to know that she was a very loving and caring girl. My condolences go out to all of her family and close friends. I tragically lost a cousin last year, and understand the pain that everyone is going through. She is now a beautiful guardian angel, watching over her loved ones for eternity. May God bless you all with strength to get through this unbearable pain.

I will always remember Val fondly. She took several classes with me at Eastern, including the first Freshman English class I ever taught there--perhaps it was her first class, too. She still stands out as one of the best students I've had the pleasure of teaching. She was a good writer and wonderful classmate who contributed to lively discussions and was always willing to help others with a smile. How can she be gone from us so young? I'm heartsore. My deepest sympathy to her loved ones.

The news of Val's passing is just devastating to her friends, former teachers/advisors and fellow classmates here at ECSU. I was Val's Academic Advisor and one of her Professors in the Department of Communication. Val was a fantastic kid, a pleasure to have in my courses, and an absolute joy to have in my daily life. I am just heart torn for her family. And, I'll miss her more than words can convey...

I was shocked to hear of Valerie's passing. She was my writing tutor at Eastern just a few years ago, and I remember her as a remarkably poised and energetic young woman. She did a great job with my students and was one of the best tutors I've had. I'll remember her as she was in that class: dynamic and full of life.
