Obituary of Gerald Cahill
Gerald C. Cahill, 82 of Patton Dr. devoted husband of Mary Lou (Buckley) Cahill for 56 years, passed away on March 23, 2009 peacefully surrounded by his family at the Elim Park Baptist Home in Cheshire.
Jerry was born on August 22, 1926 in Lowell MA. And was the son of the late Gerald J. and Esther (Papa) Cahill. He was raised in Teaneck, New Jersey before moving to Cheshire in 1966.Jerry was a WWII Air Force Veteran serving as a Flight Engineer. He was a graduate of the Stevens Institute of Technology. Jerry began his career with a General Motors training program, followed by management positions in mechanical engineering companies in New Jersey and Connecticut including 19 years at Waterbury- Farrell, a division of Textron and 10 years at Duracell, retiring in 1995. The family truly appreciates the wonderful care given to Gerald by the staff of Elim Park and the many years of excellent treatment given to him by Dr. James Sarfeh.
Besides his wife, Jerry is survived by one son Thomas J. and his wife Lisa Cahill of Medfield, MA. One daughter Claire and her husband Stephen Ruddy of Milford. He is also survived by a daughter in law Louanne Cahill of Marietta, GA. He is dearly loved by his grandchildren Erin and Mary Kate Ruddy, Matthew, Jack and Perry Cahill, Jason Nash, Ryan and Christopher Cahill of Marietta, GA. And two great grandchildren. Jerry is also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his son Gerald M. Cahill in 2001 and a sister and brother in law Joseph and Regina Magnotta.
Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Bridget Church 175 Main St. Cheshire on Friday March 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial. Calling Hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM at The Slater Funeral Home 242 South Main St. Cheshire. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery.
