Obituary of Alexander Rotko
BEACON FALLS- Mr. Alexander Rotko, 92, of 379 Bethany Rd, Beacon Falls, died late Sunday evening April 5, 2009 at the Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Andersen) Rotko who passed away in 2005 after 55 years of marriage.
Mr. Rotko as born in Ansonia Feb. 26, 1917, a son of the late Demitre and Antonia (Kozak) Rotko and was educated in the Ansonia school system and a graduate of Ansonia High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, having served with Battery C, 745th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. He served in the campaigns of East Indies, Papua New Guinea, and Luzon and his awards and service medals included; The Good Conduct Medial, the Distinguished Unit Badge, The American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon.
He was a communicant of St. Michaels Episcopal Church of Naugatuck and was a member of Schaeffer-Fischer Post, American Legion of Beacon Falls, The Beacon Falls Seniors, the Beacon Falls Chapter # 1388 of the American Association of Retired persons, and the national AARP.
He leaves, a daughter Patricia Bates of Beacon Falls, with whom he made his home, one grandson Robert Bates, Jr. of White River Junction, Vt., and one granddaughter, Cynthia Harrower of Anchorage, Alaska. He was predeceased by two brothers, Andrew and William Rotko.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Saturday April 11th at 11 a.m., in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Beacon Hose Company Ambulance Corps, 35 Main St., Beacon Falls, 06403, or to St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 210 Church St., Naugatuck, 06770.
