Obituary of Anntoinette Guckian

NAUGATUCK- Antoinette M. Guckian passed away on April 21,2009 at age 87. Antoinette nee Mantello was born in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Before marrying and devoting her life to raising a family she worked in the field of medical technology. Ann was predeceased by her husband Dr. Thomas Guckian, her daughter Ellen Guckian, her brother Vincenzo Mantello and her parents Vittoria and Nicholas Mantello. Ann is survived by her son, Vincent Guckian, her daughter, Mary Nicholas, son-in-law Thomas Nicholas and her granddaughter Alyssa Nicholas, daughter Dr. Victoria Soovajian, son-in-law Martin Soovajian and her grandson Daniel Soovajian, daughter Elizabeth Ryan, RN and grandson Nicholas Ryan. Ann also leaves her sister Rosina Coulehan, brother-in-law Robert Coulehan and their children, Jeanne, Susan, Vincent, Mary Rita and Robert. Ann was very close with her Irish in laws, especially her sister-in-law Lily Delap, Nuala Guckian and numerous nieces and nephews in Ireland. Ann also leaves her dear friends Joanne Dowling, Suzanne McKee, Natalie Ross, Mary Erdman, Sharon Hebb, her hairdresser Anna as well as all of the wonderful contacts she had at the Whittemore Library and the Naugatuck Woman's Club. Ann was a private woman of intelligence, kindness and quiet grace. Her wide ranging interests encompassed: family, flowers, reading, history, current events, politics, travel, cooking, UCONN woman's basketball and all things Italian and Irish. Her grandchildren provided much joy, she loved watching them laugh, play, grow and mature. Ann was a long standing communicant at Saint Francis of Assisi's Roman Catholic Church and derived strength and solace from her faith. She will be greatly missed by the many people she has positively touched. Thanks and gratitude to the fine staff at the Naugatuck VNA, Griffin Hospital, Shady Knoll Health Center, and the Connecticut Hospice. Ann's funeral will be held on Saturday April 25, 2009, at 11:30 am. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. and proceed to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon. Entombment will follow in Calvary Garden Mausoleum, 2324 East Main St., Waterbury. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 am until the procession leaves for church.
