Obituary of Fernand Rousseau

NAUGATUCK- Mr. Fernand Rousseau of Naugatuck died Saturday, April 25, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Jeannine (Cossette) Rousseau. Mr. Rousseau was born in Waterbury June 29, 1932, a son of the late Arcade and Claudia (LaCroix) Rousseau and had been a Naugatuck resident for the past 35 years, moving here from Waterbury. He was an active member of St. Anne's and St. Vincent Ferrer Church communities He was a U.S. Postal employee for over 27 years and had delivered mail to residents of Waterbury in all sorts of weather and had served as President of local 168, National Association of Letter Carriers for several years prior to his retirement in 1989. He was an organic gardener, studious reader, heated debater and had an affection for many kinds of music. Besides his wife of almost 50 years, he leaves one son, Paul-Aime Rousseau of Middletown; one daughter, Annette and her husband John Luongo of Idaho; two Jonathon. And Jessica Rousseau; one brother, Rev. Robert Rousseau of St. Augustine's Parish, North Branford; two sisters, Jeannine "Jean" Zarrella and her husband Joseph of Wolcott and Lillian Foley of Waterbury; a sister-in-law, Joyce Rousseau of Florida; an uncle, Denis DuPont and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Lionel Rousseau, a brother-in-law, Robert Foley, and nephews, Joseph Zarella, Jr., and Kevin Foley. His funeral will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., and proceed to St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Rd., for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with his brother, Father Rousseau, as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Cross St., Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carolyn's Place, 137 Grandview Ave., Waterbury, 06708.
