Obituary of Timothy Horan
Mr. Timothy J. Horan, 96, of Southington formerly of Cheshire died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Southington Care Center. He was the husband of the late Mary (Egan) Horan. Mr. and Mrs. Horan were married for 71 years.
Mr. Horan was born in Brooklyn, NY Dec. 26, 1912, the son of the late Timothy P. and Ellen (Bradley) Horan and had been a Cheshire resident for 36 years. He graduated from the Chemical Engineering program of Pratt Institute, School of Science and Technology, Brooklyn, NY. He retired from Fleisher Finishing as Technical Director in 1983. Prior to joining Fleisher, he had been Plant Manager of Reid-Meredith, Lawrence, MA, Research Chemist, Fibersearch Corp., Lawrence, MA, Ass't Director of Research and Development at Princeton Knitting Mills, Watertown, CT, Chief Chemist at Cheney Brothers, Manchester, CT, and a Chemist at Joseph Bancroft Co., Wilmington, Delaware.
After World War II, Mr. Horan was a State approved instructor in Radiological Monitoring and taught courses to Civilian Defense personnel in Manchester and Watertown, CT. He was a member of the American Ass'n of Textile Chemists and Colorists and held many of the positions in the Western New England Section. He was a communicant of St. Bridget Roman Catholic Church, Cheshire, and a past member of Campbell Council Knights of Columbus, Manchester, CT, and a member of St. John School Association, Watertown, CT, the American Chemical Society. His hobbies included reading, music, traveling, gardening, photography.
He leaves his son Timothy W. Horan and his wife Jeanne of Marshfield, MA, a daughter Marilyn Horan Ulizio and her husband Louis of Wallingford, CT, a sister Marie Horan Ficht of Cutchogue, NY, and seven grandchildren, Owen Ulizio, and his wife, Eileen, Dean Ulizio, and his wife, Rachael, Todd Ulizio, and his fiancée, Rebecca Avrett, Melanie Ulizio, Jennifer (Horan) McInerney, and her husband, Kevin, Timothy J. Horan, Jessica (Horan) Fairbanks and her husband, Adam, and five great-grandchildren; Christopher and Jenna Ulizio, Carmen and Allison May Ulizio and Jillian Mary McInerney. .
A mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Horan will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Saint Bridget Church 175 Main Street in Cheshire. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in Saint John Cemetery in Wallingford.
