Obituary of Roger Hall
CHESHIRE- Roger Welton Hall, 87, a direct descendant of one of the founding families of Cheshire, the son of Samuel Foote Hall and Lois Welton Hall born December 21, 1924 died at Midstate Medical Center on March 4, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy Type Parkinson's Disease.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years the former Irene Stagis of Hamden; a brother Kenneth Hall; a sister Barbara Voegeli of Cheshire, six nieces and nephews, fourteen grand nieces and nephews; and one great nephew.
He graduated from Huminston Grammar School in 1938, and Hamden High School in 1942, and Cheshire Academy in 1943, before enlisting in the U.S Paratroop's 82nd Division; he served in the European Theater of Operations during World War II for three years, and was the recipient of three Purple Hearts.
After being honorably discharged from the service he entered Trinity College in 1946 where he served as President of DKE fraternity, President of the Class of 1950, and played football for four years, serving as Captain of the undefeated team of 1949.
After graduating from Trinity and Harvard Business School in 1950, he entered the Executive Training Program of Scovill Manufacturing Company in Waterbury. He remained with the company until retiring in 1990 at which time he served as the President of Apparel Fasteners Inc., the former Closure Division of the company where he did extensive traveling throughout the world, including China, Japan, Australia, Europe, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. After retiring from Scovill he became President of Tiana U.S.A Trading Corporation, and later President of Ram Fasteners Inc., from which he retired in 2000.
Roger maintained a vacation home in Puerto Rico for forty years where he and Mrs. Hall spent winters. He was an avid sports fan, and especially of the New York Jets, enjoyed boating and golf, was a member of The Farms Country Club for fifty years, as well as a former member of Waterbury Country Club, The Waterbury Club, Atlanta Athletic Club, The DKE Club of New York, and The New York Athletic Club. He was involved for many years in Cheshire Politics and was appointed to the Board of Selectman in 1967 and served as First Selectman in 1971.
Arrangements- Roger's funeral will be held Wednesday March 7, 2012, 9:15 am from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St. to St. Bridget Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Donations in Roger's name may be made to the Trinity College Fund, PO Box 30628, Hartford, CT 06101-9920, or to the St. Bridget Church Building Fund, 175 Main St, Cheshire, CT 06410, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
