Obituary of Sheila Hamel

Sheila Eddy Hamel passed away at her home in Arlington, VA, on Sunday July 12, 2009.   She was the beloved daughter of Roland and Marion Hamel and the loving and devoted aunt of Michael Jude Nowakowski, his wife Robin and their sons Michael Patton, Ryan Charles and Stephen Roland.   Sheila was born in Waterbury, CT, where she was a graduate of Crosby High School Class of 1954. She lived there until leaving for St. Joseph College where she received her Bachelor Degree in nursing, and then on to Catholic University for her Master's Degree. She lived in the Washington D.C. area since 1962 where she rose to the position of Assistant Director of Nursing at Georgetown University Hospital. Sheila was an active member of her community where she spent a lifetime caring for others. She loved to play bridge, was an avid reader, crossword puzzle buff and enjoyed watching movies. Most of all she loved her numerous friends and family members deeply. She had the heart of a giant, a distinctive laugh and filled all of our lives with hugs. We love her dearly. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.   A Mass of Christian Burial for Sheila will be celebrated on Thursday July 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Church 67 Southmayd Road in Waterbury. Friends are asked to meet directly at Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Mulville Funeral Home 270 West Main Street has care of arrangements.
