We just learned of this sad news and send our condolances to all of Bill's friends and family. Bill was a kind man that was fun to spend time with. He was deeply devoted to his family that loved him so very much. My memories of him was that he exuded chronic, contagious laughter...an unmatched family trait that I will always cherish. Bill had a way of being laid back and real. You could talk with him about anything. He had a great appreciation for times past and people he knew throughout his lifetime. We had some really fun times with his sisters and wherever they were, there was sure to be a lot of drama mixed with laughter!!! What an entertaining bunch! We got through so many things together and it was truly a gift to experience that over a thirty year span of time. May those that have known and loved him, find peace and know they are better people because Bill's life touchted theirs. Thoughtfully, Dawn and Barbro Brainerd

One of the best rewards that I receive from my job at the Hamden Townhouse Restaurant is meeting some wonderful people. Bill Mauhs was one of those people. After meeting Bill and his son many years ago we became instant friends. Bill, his son and I had formed what I consider to be a special bond. Through the years we would talk for hours. Always about the children. Bill would always ask how each and every one of my children was (and there are 8!) and he would always keep me updated on his. I have always had the utmost respect for Bill. With unselfishness, he raised his children with strong values. His children were everything to him. Over the years I had the pleasure to watch his son, Bill, grow from a little boy to the wonderful 21 year old man that he is today...Bill was so proud!! The first thing that Bill said to me when his son, Barry, passed was that it should have been him and that it is not supposed to happen this way. He was devastated and it broke my heart...I could feel his pain. I want to say that I am honored to have had Bill as my friend. He was truly one of the best. I will miss him always. My deepest condolences to all of Bill's family.

My father was one of the nicest guys you would ever meet. He's the type of guy that would go above and beyond for his kids. My sisters and I can't recall how many times he guided us through tough situations with his loving support. The past 6 years haven't been easy for my father and I. As he fought this disease and endured numerous hospital stays I can't say I never feared this day would take place. Although I miss my dad and love him so much I know him being at peace was the best thing. Life will go on. I will carry on his personality, looks, and name. Not a day won't go by that I don't think about him and my brother Barry. We lost a great person.

Bill Mauhs came into my life when I was 5 or 6 yrs old. He married my mother when I was 7. In addition to that package were my brother Barry and my sister Dana. He became my father in all senses of the word. He taught me how to drive and gave me my first car when I was a senior in High School, when he and my mother had already separated. Whenever I came home from the Navy he picked me up from the airport. He was the parent who always called to see how my daughter and I were doing, what we were all going to be doing for birthdays, holidays, could he come up for dinner, & go out of his way to meet my friends (he was a pretty friendly guy). He watched my daughter and my dog when I had to do the Navy thing. My Dad wasn't much of a complainer and he often put others needs before his own. From him I gained a couple of Aunts and a handful of cousins. I have more family from him, then I do biologically. From here on out there will be hole left in my life that can never be filled by anyone else. I miss him so much already. But one thing I know, he is with my brother Barry, and I know he missed him so much when he left us. We will be together again one day. For now I'll settle for having a new angel smiling down on me. Until we meet again. Big hugs and kisses Dad.
