Obituary of John Kollias
Mr. John J. Kollias, 72, of Cheshire passed away Wednesday August 19, 2009 at his home. He was the husband of Judith (Viscio) Kollias.
Mr. Kollias was born may 16, 1937 in Worcester, MA a son of the late James and Malama (Vlahakis) Kollias and has been a Cheshire resident for the past 41 years. He was a graduate of Classical High School in Worcester and Worcester State College. He earned his Master's Degree from Southern Connecticut State University and his sixth year certificate from Saint Joseph College in Hartford. Mr. Kollias was a world geography teacher at Moran Junior High School in Wallingford retiring in 1995 after many years of service. He was a man of culture who enjoyed traveling, music, the arts and theater. Mr. Kollias was a member of Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in Orange.
Besides his wife he leaves his brother, Paris Kollias of Portland, his sister, Bess Kollias of Worcester, his mother-in-law Angelina Viscio, his nephew Paul, his nieces, Diane and Marlene and his dear friends Bill and Barbara Chaltas.
Funeral services for Mr. Kollias will be held Monday August 24 at 10 a.m. at Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church 480 Race Brook Road in Orange. Friends are asked to meet directly at Church. Entombment will follow at All Saint's Cemetery in North Haven. Friends may call at the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire 615 South Main Street Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. with a Trisagion Service at 4 p.m. If desired memorial contributions may be made to Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund 480 Race Brook Road Orange, CT. 06477.
