Obituary of Minerva Cortes

WATERBURY- Mrs. Minerva (Cuevas) Cortes, 63, of 89 Kelsey St., Waterbury, passed away Monday Sept. 1, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital. Mrs. Cortes was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico, July 28, 1946, a daughter of the late David and Otilia (Santiago) Cuevas and came to Waterbury from Puerto Rico in 1988. She was a retired employee of Med Apparel. She leaves 2 sons, Norberto Cortes and Jose G. Cortes both of Waterbury; 4 daughters, Hortencia Cortes of Naugatuck, Minerva Lopez, Carmen T. Santiago and Elizabeth Cortes all of Waterbury; one brother, David Cuevas of Florida; 6 sisters, Vivian Cuevas, Eumabel Cuevas, and Avimalek Cuevas all of Waterbury, Avisienit Cuevas of Puerto Rico, Betsey Maldona of Chicago, and Jannette Rivera of Meriden; 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 am at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave. Burial will be in New Pine Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society P.O.
