Obituary of Harold Peterson

NAUGATUCK, CT.- Mr. Harold Donald Duane Peterson, 92, of 26 Phyllis Dr., Naugatuck, passed away Wednesday Dec. 16, 2009 at the Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of N. Elaine (Meares) Peterson. Mr. Peterson was born in Arnot, PA Nov. 16,1917, a son of the late John E. and Hilda (Johnson) Peterson and was educated in the Pennsylvania school system. He became a Naugatuck resident in 1936, moving here from Williamsport, PA. He was a veteran of WW II, having served in the U.S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant. He served in the Rome Arno Campaign and the Southern France Campaign with the 45th Air Combat group. His military awards included The European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, The Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a graduate of New Haven College and a retired employee of Uniroyal-Chemical Division, retiring in 1979 with over 42 years of service. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where he as active in many of the committee's of the church. He was a former Deacon and Sunday school teacher and helped with the youth programs, and was a member of Shepherd-Salem Lodge, # 78 A.F. & A.M. for over 67 years. Besides his wife of 66 years, he leaves a son Harold D. Peterson of Bolton, CT; one daughter Martha M. Lack of Billings Mont.; 2 brothers, Paul F. Peterson of Trout Run PA, and Dr. Arnold Peterson of Williamsport, PA; one sister, Leona Miller of Williamsport, PA; 4 grandchildren, Jeannette Bradford, Leighann Lack, Joe Lack, and Michael Peterson; 5 great-grandchildren, Keller Bradford, Lanie Bradford, Walker Bradford, Dylan Martell and Tatem Rae Meares Lack. He was predeceased by a sister, Nina Blanchard. Funeral services will be held on Friday Dec. 18th at 11 am at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial with full military honors will be in Swedish Lutheran Cemetery, Arnot, PA. on Tuesday Dec. 22nd at 1 p.m. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Enterprises, Inc., P.O. Box 1837, Williamsport, PA, 17703-1837.
