Obituary of Harry Meisel

SOUTHBURY- Dr. Harry A. Meisel, 83, of 816-B Heritage Village, Southbury, died Wednesday morning Mar. 3, 2010 at the Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Harriet (Kramer)(Kaplan) Meisel Dr. Meisel was born in New York City, Oct. 3, 1926, a son of the late David and Rosalind (Leder) Meisel. He was educated in the New York school system and received a bachelor's degree from City College and a Masters and PhD. in Education and Student Affairs from Columbia University. Harry was Dean of Student Affairs at many colleges throughout the United States ending his career at Naugatuck Valley Community College in 1992. He was a veteran of WW II, having served in the U.S. Navy and took pride in his country and was extremely patriotic. Everyone who knew Harry appreciated his sense of humor and intelligence. He loved his family and friends. Besides his wife of almost 30 years, he leaves a daughter, Dr. Sherry Solomon and her husband Dr. Ira Solomon of New York; one son Mitchell Kaplan and is wife Marci of New Jersey; four grandchildren, Marissa, Scott and Taylor Solomon and Marc Kaplan . Also his brother-in-law and sister-in-law William and Lois Kramer and Rose and Bert Madnick and many devoted and outstanding nieces and nephews Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave. with Rabbi Michael G. Kohn, officiating. Burial will be in Hebrew Benefit Cemetery, Stillson Rd., Waterbury. Shiva will be observed at his late home on Saturday evening through Thursday evening.
