Obituary of Joel Demick
WATERBURY - Joel Demick, 86, formerly of Waterbury, passed away Wednesday March 31, 2010 at Tranquility Hospice in Georgia. He was the husband of Jayne (Distefano) Demick.
Mr. Demick was born March 29, 1924 in Waterbury the son of the late Jacob and Clara (Eron) Demick. He was a life-long Waterbury resident before moving to Georgia in 2007. He served in the United States Army during World War II, earning two combat stars. During his years in Waterbury he was first the managing owner of LeClaire Dress Shop and later the LeClaire Salon for Brides. He was an active member of Beth-El Synagogue, where he was named Shem Tov in 2002. He was a member of the Workmen's Circle Association and, for many years, managed the Workmen's Circle Cemetery where he will be buried. He also served as President of the B'nai Brith.
Besides his wife of 58 years, Mr. Demick is survived by his son Jack Demick of Sharon, MA; his daughter Judy Demick Miller of Dallas, GA; his daughter-in-law Joan Kellerman; his grandchildren Teri-Leigh Boutot, Katie Kellerman-Demick and Daniel Kellerman Demick; his nephew Jack Horowitz and his nieces Gail Horowitz and Susan Brand.
Arrangements - A graveside service will be held on Sunday April 4, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at Workman's Circle Cemetery on Stillson Road in Waterbury. Friends are invited to visit with family immediately after the service at home of Margie & David Ross, 125 Southwest Pkwy, Waterbury. In lieu of gifts, donations may be made to the Wellstar Community Hospice,4040 Hospital West Drive, Austell, GA 30106. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave. is in charge of arrangements.
