Obituary of Anne Denne
Cheshire - Anne McGrath Denne, 89, whose independence, strength, and adoration for her family kept her at the center of Denne clan, passed away April 15, 2010. She was the wife of the late Thomas H. Denne Jr. Mrs. Denne was born January 28, 1921 in Bozrah, the daughter of the late John A. and Ellen E. (Quinlan) McGrath.
Most of her working life was spent as a secretary, first at Travelers Insurance, where she met her husband, and later at Elim Park, where she worked until retirement in 1986.
Mrs. Denne was an eager traveler who treasured journeys with her sisters to far-flung places like England, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and Memphis, TN. In her later years, as the Denne family spread throughout Cheshire and beyond, she hosted frequent family gatherings.
She loved to read and was an avid fan of UConn Women's Basketball.
She is survived by her sons Thomas Denne III and his wife Cynthia of Cheshire and Mark Denne and his wife Darlene of Cumberland, RI; her daughter Elizabeth Worsham and her husband Robert of Woodstock, CT; her seven grandchildren Thomas Denne IV and his wife Jennifer of Cheshire; Jill Stanizzi and her husband Jonathan of Coventry, CT; Erin Blake and her husband Jake of Portland, OR; Scott Denne and his wife Tatjana of Bayonne, NJ; Todd Worsham and his wife Stacey of Auburn, MA; Greg Denne of Burlington, NC; Eric Denne of Cumberland, RI; her sister-in-law Virginia Denne of Bloomfield, CT; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Denne is predeceased by her brothers Donald J. McGrath and William P. McGrath; her sisters Lucy A. Basiel and Elizabeth "Betty" Murphy.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 24, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main Street. Burial will follow immediately in Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association, 4 Oxford Road - Unit D4, Milford, CT 06460.
