Obituary of John Milton
SOUTHINGTON - John Francis Milton of Southington CT, former 34-year Cheshire resident, passed into eternal rest on July 9, 2010. He was the husband of Marilyn (Williams) Milton.
Mr. Milton was born on June 15, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Michael and Mary Milton.
John was a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY, Class of 1959. Upon graduation from USMA, he joined the U. S. Army. John was an Army Ranger and a Company Commander in the 101st Airborne. He was a member of the New York State and Connecticut State National Guard and left the military with the rank of Captain. In civilian life he was associated with the Macke Company as regional sales manager and president of its Connecticut division, and retired from ARAMark Inc. in 2000.
John's children and grandchildren were the center of his life and he enjoyed spending time with them, supporting their activities, and sharing his many military stories, books and memorabilia with them.
John had a great love for the Cheshire community and was an officer in the Cheshire Jaycees. He served on the Republican Town Committee, was Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals and Secretary of the Board of Education. He was actively involved in the Cheshire School System and was president of the Cheshire High School, Dodd Middle School and Doolittle School Parent Teacher Associations. John supported all Cheshire athletic programs and was a member and officer of the Cheshire RAM Band Parents Association. John was an avid fan of Army Football, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and UCONN Basketball.
The family would like to extend its sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Summit at Plantsville for the loving care they provided to John in his final days.
Besides his wife of 50 years, John is survived by his children John (Anastasia) Milton, Kathleen (Joseph) Cavanaugh, Stephen (Lori) Milton and Marilyn (Michael) Kahl; his 12 grandchildren Bailey and Julia Kahl, Tyler and Luvian Abell, Abigail, Stephen, John and Andrew Milton, Brandon and Matthew Milton, Jack and Mary Kate Cavanaugh. He is also survived by his sister Betty Anne (James) Bowes, brothers Harry (Regina) Milton, and Michael Milton; and in-law family John and Patricia Williams, Donald and Muriel Williams, Gerard Williams and Diane Williams, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Brian.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 17, 2010, 9:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire 615 S. Main Street to St. Bridget Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made for their niece, Ansley, to "Ansley's Angels" c/o the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 532 Broad Hollow Road, Suite 118, Melville NY 11747, or to the Cheshire High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, 535 South Main Street, Cheshire CT 06410.
