Obituary of Margaret Cook
CHESHIRE - Margaret (Bowman) Cook, 90, of Cheshire died Tuesday August 17, 2010. She was the wife of the late Harold W. Cook.
Peggy was born in Waterbury March 4, 1920, the daughter of the late Matthew and Bridget (Duff) Bowman. She was a lifelong resident of Cheshire who attended Humiston Grammar School in Cheshire and graduated from Crosby High School in 1938.
Peggy was a communicant of St. Bridget Church donating countless hours and energy to many of their fundraisers and also to the Legions of Christ in Cheshire. She was active in the community, serving on the Cheshire Democratic Committee in the 50's and early 60's. She was a past member of West Cheshire Community Club, and one of the founding members of the Cheshire VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Peg worked for several area businesses most notably Ray and Mary's Restaurant, IGA North Supermarket and most recently RW Hine Hardware.
Peggy will always be remembered for being quick witted, outspoken and her endless generosity, faith and love.
Peg is survived by her daughter Margaret Walesky and her husband Robert of Cheshire, daughter Kathy Popienick and her husband John of Charlotte, North Carolina and son J. Robert Cook and his wife Dianne of Cheshire; 9 grandchildren, Chris Cook, Beth Cook, Carrie Cook-Vecchitto, Matthew and Megan Walesky, Sean and Thomas Popienick, Kelly Emch and David Cook; five great grand children and many nieces and nephews. Peg was predeceased by her husband Harold W. Cook; her sons William and Charles Cook; her twin sister Mary (Bowman) Rochford; her sister Martha (Bowman) Bailey and her brother Edward M. Bowman.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 21, 2010, 9:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main Street to St. Bridget Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Bridget Building Fund.
