Mr. Held was my son's teacher this year at High Roads. Eric talks about Mr. Held often. Remembering the funny things he use to say to Eric. Mr. Held helped my son very much and has left a lasting impression on our family. It takes a special teacher to make all the difference in a child's life. Eric misses you! The Brown Family

I will miss you Mr. Held. You always inspired me to do better. Whenever I came into class not very happy, you always cheered me up just by talking to me and seeing your face. You were very understanding when I first came to the school as a new student, even after you still cared. I really appreciated that. You were a good person,a good teacher and very helpful . I loved being your student and was glad to have you as my teacher. You will always be in my heart, prayers and memories.

One time coming back from the METS game, we were stuck in traffic. And Mr. Held started singing, "We can't get no,satisfaction.....no where!" He was singing with his head out the window and starting singing the song to people on the street! He was so funny, he told me, "what happens in the van, stays in the van."

Sympathy for your loss. My favorite memory of Mr. Held was how he was always caring and compassionate towards everyone that was in contact with him. He was like a dad to me. I can't thank this person enough for what he has done for us. He taught us life lessons, without even realizing it. I learned to be patient and not have an attitude anywhere. Attitude is everything where ever you are in life. Life may have barriers, but you are the one that decides how to overcome them.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I was, for a short while, a student of his. He was so much fun, and yet he had us work hard. Just remember, "A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest, God broke our Hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best! Sincerely, Christian Dowling

Dear Kathy and family, My heart goes out to you. The news of Rick's passing has been tough for me to deal with, and I can't even imagine what you guys are going through. Rick and I were blog/run buddies for the past 1.5-2 years, and I was lucky enough to meet up with him briefly before the NYC Marathon last fall. So many times over the past few days I've wished that we had more time that morning to chat before the race. It was evident that he loved and cared for you guys; he had such a big heart in general. I am SO appreciative of you for posting a few updates to his blog and letting us know - I know many of his other blog/run friends feel the same way. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and please let me know if there is anything I can do. Love and hugs, Lindsay / Chasing the Kenyans
