Obituary of Stanley Olszlewski

NAUGATUCK- Mr. Stanley Joseph Olszewski, 86 formerly of Naugatuck, passed away Sunday Jan. 23, 2011 at Paradigam Healthcare Center of Prospect, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Irene (Proch) Olszewski, who passed away in 2001. Mr. Olszewski was born in Naugatuck, August 16, 1924, a son of the late Michael and Evelyn (Kozon) Olszewski and was a Naugatuck resident for most of life. He had lived in Seymour and returned to Naugatuck in the late 1990's. He was a retired employee of Uniroyal- Synthetic Division retiring in 1970 with over 25 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, the American Theater Medal and the Victory Medal. He was a member of Post 17, American Legion, the Catholic War Veterans of Naugatuck, and the Anchor Club. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and was a former volunteer with the Bingo committee. He was a 3rd and 4th degree member of Ojeda Council Knights of Columbus of Naugatuck, and was a former member of Aurora Council Knights of Columbus and a former Eucharistic Minister at St. Augustine's Church both of Seymour.He leaves four daughters, Evelyn Dzwonchyk and Mary Houle both of Naugatuck, Theresa Helton, and Elizabeth Begnoche both of Shelton; one sister, Irene Kowalewski of Waterbury; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Michael Olszewski and a brother Walter Olszewski and two sisters, Hedwig Cavalera and Helen Hermalak. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday Jan. 28, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St. at 11 am. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross St., Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St. Naugatuck, 06770. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is assisting the family with the arrangements.
