Obituary of William Schlesinger

NAUGATUCK- Mr. William F. Schlesinger, 83, of Naugatuck, passed away Wednesday Jan. 26, 2011 at the Glendale Center, Naugatuck. He was the husband of the late Frances (Else) Schlesinger who passed away in 1993 after 45 years of marriage. Bill was born in Williamsport, PA, Mar. 12, 1927, a son of the late Joy H. and Hazel (Ream) Schlesinger and moved to Naugatuck in his early youth. He was a WW II veteran serving in the Marine Corps. He was a retired employee of Uniroyal-Chemical Div., retiring in 1989 wwith over 44 ½ years of service. He was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of Crusader Post 1946, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had been a member of the former Naugatuck Volunteer Fire Dept. for over 36 years, and was a founding member of the Naugatuck Rescue Squad. He was a member of Shepherd-Salem Lodge # 78 A.F. & A.M. and the Allerton-Eureka Chapter, Royal Arch Masons. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Socialable Sam's camping group. He leaves his children, Robert G. Schlesinger and his wife Laurel, and Linda J. Schlesinger both of Naugatuck, and Deborah L. Bensavage of Bristol, and Georgann Kozlowski and her husband Frank of Colorado Springs, CO.; one brother, Paul Schlesinger of Naugatuck and 5 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was predeceased by a brother Robert Schlesinger. Funeral services will be held on Friday Feb. 4, 2011 at 10 am at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial with full military honors will be in Grove Cemetery, Cross St. Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday Feb. 3rd from 6 to 8 pm. Members of Shepherd-Salem Lodge will conduct a Masonic Service on Thursday evening at 6:30 pm at the funeral home. Members of the Naugatuck Veteran's Council will meet at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:15 pm In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crusader Post # 1946 VFW, Rubber Ave., Naugatuck.
