Obituary of Cyril Mellette

MIDDLEBURY- Mr. Cyril "Cy" W. Mellette, Jr., 85 of Middlebury, passes away early Saturday morning Feb. 12, 2011, at the Candlewood Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. He was the loving husband of Elsie (Northrop) Mellette. Cy was born in Waterbury, son of the late Cyril Mellette, Sr. and the late Beatrice (Demers) (Mellette) Furlotte and was a graduate of Wilby High school and a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He was the recipient of the American Theater Medal, the WW II Victory Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 2 Stars. He was a toolmaker by trade and retired as a Sales Engineer from Lacey Manufacturing. During his retirement Cy owned and operated C. W. Mellette Custom Gunsmithing of Middlebury, combining his engineering skills and love of outdoor activities. He was a veteran member of the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Dept., serving as Chief and Fire Marshall for 8 years in the 1960's. Mr. Mellette was a member of King Solomon Lodge # 7 A.F. & A.M. of Woodbury, The Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Waterbury, the Sphinx Shriners of Newington, the Kaabans Shrine Club of Plymouth, the Kachina Club of Scottsdale, AZ, and the Dimaryp Court # 66, Royal Order of Jesters. He was also an active member of the Bristol Fish and Game Club, where he was a Life member, the Tin Can Sailors, The Wolcott Land Owners Assoc., and the Quassy Fishing Club. Besides his wife of 62 years, he leaves, a daughter, Diane and her husband, Mark Cataudella of Cumberland, R.I.; two grandsons, Cristofor Cataudella and his wife Amy of Boston, MA and Schenzen, China and Matthew Cataudella and his wife Jozefien of Boston, MA; two great-grandchildren, Siena Cataudella and Ryan Cataudella; Five brothers, Ronald Mellette and his wife Linda of Waterbury, Richard and Robert Mellette of Middlebury, Raymond Mellette of Tenn. And Roland Mellette and his wife Susan of Kittery, ME; one sister, Melodie McVerry and her husband Michael of Middlebury His funeral will be held on Tuesday Feb. 15, 2011 at 9:45 am from the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave. and proceed to the Middlebury Congregational Church, 1242 Whittemore Rd., Middlebury, for services at 10:30am Burial will be in Middlebury Cemetery in the spring at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday Feb. 14th, 2011 from 4 to 8 pm. Members of King Solomon Lodge will conduct a masonic service at the funeral home at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make memorial contributions the Middlebury Vol. Fire Dept., Tucker Hill Rd., Middlebury, 06762 or to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104-2396
