Obituary of Mary Dair
CHESHIRE - Mary Dair, 92, passed away April 9, 2011 at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Alexander Leslie Dair.
Mrs. Dair was born January 27, 1919 in Dundee, Scotland the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Laburn) Dand and the step-daughter of John Somerville. She was a longtime resident of Cold Spring Harbor, on Long Island where she was employed as a secretary for the American Can Company until her retirement in 1981. After her retirement she worked part time at the Huntington Public Library on Long Island for many years and then moved to Cheshire, CT four years ago.
She was a very talented artist designing and creating gold and silver jewelry, a sculptor in wood and marble pieces. Her family has been the recipient of many of her works of art. Mary came to the United States with her mother after losing her father in the First World War. She triumphed over much adversity, and attended evening college in her 50s graduating Cum Laude from C.W. Post University. Her passing was a major loss to her family.
Mrs. Dair is survived by her son Roderick Dair and his wife Michelle of Westerly, RI; her daughter Jessica Fischer with whom she resided and her husband Jon of Cheshire; her five grandchildren Ian Fischer, Andrew Fischer, Daniel Dair, Laura Dair and Jessica Dair Russell; as well as her five great grandchildren Jake, Logan, Caden, Weston and Boden.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be private and there are no calling hours. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Northport Rural Cemetery on Long Island. The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. is assisting with arrangements.
