Mrs. Kalasnik, David, MaryBeth, John, Jane, and family...How sad I was to hear about Paul. Sad for those left behind who will forever miss him. Ann :) when my dad called to tell me about Paul, I couldn't help by sit back and reminisce. How many years our family has known your family. I thought of the years we spent in church. First, at Ward St, then when my Dad built Calvary...how many memories!!! Youth group, potluck suppers, lots of BORSCHT...yuk! and lots of Christian fellowship. Paul, Frannie, Pauly & Micky Zubik, Ray, David, & Robert Zubik, my sister Jill, Dan Sousa, your David...so many! I especially remember all the great times we had at youth group. Paul was always making everyone laugh. He had a smile as big as his heart. He also had a mischievous streak. Though we haven't seen you in many years, my Dad has spoken of your family often. You will be in my prayers for the comfort only God can give at such a difficult time. Much love to you all....Barbara (Hoden) Riggs

In the few years I've known Paul, I feel like I could've known him forever. I have two wonderful weekends that I was able to spend time with Paul, and glad I had that time with him. His strength and kind heartedness is something that was apparent from the moment I met him, and I'll never forget it. Paul, let's help get Joey a win this season, yes? :) rip and thank you.

Dear Ann and Marybeth: We grieve with you and the rest of the family at the death of Paul, one of our dear friends. Our children recall with gratitude the good times they had with Paul and his brother and sister as their parents enjoyed fellowship in tne Lord in their home. That same Lord will continue to comfort you as He has with us as we suffered the loss of dear Eileen when the Lord took her peacefully while asleep on Feb. 21st after a long illness. It was a blessing to have so many old friends from Waterbury at her memorial service. Priscilla is visiting now and both she and Tim send their love. In Christ, Pastor John

I had to pleasure of knowing Paul on 2 levels. As the parent of 2 kids (both in their 30's now) and also as a member of the staff at CHS. I will miss Paul.

To Paul's Family and Friends, I was so saddened to read about Paul's passing. It seems like only yesterday I attended East Farms and Crosby High with Paul. I always remember how easily both his studies and sports came to him. He gave us some thrills on the basketball court, leading the Bulldogs to victory.I was glad to know that he attended UCONN and Central and became a teacher (as did I)! I'm sure his students loved him! I will always remember the fun we had during those school days and what a wonderful friend Paul was to so many. With Deepest Sympathy.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Kalasnik, one of my favorite teachers at Canton High School. He was one of the kindest, most caring and encouraging teachers I encountered. He enjoyed the writing of Dorothy Parker as much as I did and to this day I still have a paper about her that I wrote for his class. I remember a story he told of his service as a young man in the Navy during the Vietnam war, that he was among very few survivors in an explosion aboard his ship. He touched the lives of many of his students and I am thankful to have been among them. “That would be a good thing for them to carve on my tombstone: Wherever she went, including here, it was against her better judgment." - Dorothy Parker

When I saw Paul's name in this morning's paper, I was immediately transported back to my childhood in Bucks Hill, where Paul and I were good friends and classmates when we were in fourth and fifth grade. I could see the hint of the child's face smiling back from the adult picture and I remembered the visits to the Kalasnik apartment on Knollwood Circle and later the new house on North Main Street next to Calvary Baptist Church. I have fond memories of the little backyard shows (under the clothesline tents) we would put on for the scores of neighborhood kids, with Paul as the emcee and the all girl cast of singers and dancers. I remember he was a good artist and sent me a lovely handmade card, as did my fourth grade classmates, when I was at home recuperating from appendix surgery. After reading the touching tributes in Canton Patch, I could see that the gentle, caring qualities he exhibited as a child were so abundantly present as an adult, as he touched so many people as a teacher. Even though I have not seen him since I was eleven, we seemed to have followed some similar paths.... I too was a teacher and graduated from UConn and Central. Paul will always be a big part of my happy childhood memories and my heartfelt sympathies are extended to the whole Kalasnik family.

Mr.Kalasnik was my study hall teacher for 2 years now. I can honestly say that he was one of the nicest people I have ever met and probably ever will meet. I will truly miss our talks everyday in study hall and just miss seeing him. He was always helping someone and it seemed always brightening up someones day. We could talk to Mr.Kalasnik about anything and he would always be able to help us. It was very clear that he cared for each and every student and somedays when he was not feeling very good I believe that he just came in to see us he truly cared for the students. Mr.Kalasnik was not only a teacher to me but he was also a really great friend of mine who I will never forget. So thanks Mr.K for everything you did I promise you will never be forgotten.

When I opened my local newspaper this morning I immediately recognized Mr. Kalasnik and was so deeply saddened by the news of his passing. He was my high school teacher over 20 years ago at Canton High. I remember him like it was yesterday and have often told people along the years about him being my favorite teacher. He was even voted teacher of the year by our class which was back in 1988. He was such a nice, caring man and I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
