Obituary of Theresa Proffitt
CHESHIRE - Theresa Proffitt, 83, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2011 surrounded by the love of her family after a lengthy illness at the Alzheimer's Resource Center in Plantsville, CT. She was the wife of the late Joseph Proffitt.
Theresa was born February 18, 1928 in Worcester, MA, the loving daughter of the late Cornelius and Margaret Sullivan. She graduated from Ascension High School in Worcester, MA and later graduated from the School of Business Science in Worcester. She retired from her position as school secretary at the Cheshire Correctional Institution in 1990.
Prior to Theresa's illness, she was an active and devout member of the Church of the Epiphany, and also volunteered her time at a local convalescent homes in Cheshire. She and her husband Joe enjoyed taking part in different Elderhostel programs and traveling with her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, needlework, taking art classes, and attending the senior center, but most of all she enjoyed being surrounded by her children and grandchildren for numerous family functions.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers who supported and loved Theresa during her illness.
Theresa is survived by her five children, Joseph Proffitt and his wife Ann of Easton, Stephen Proffitt and his wife Maria of Southington, Mark Proffitt and his wife Lisa of Southington, Christopher Proffitt and his wife Christine of Berlin and Mary McCormick and her husband Jeff of Cheshire; 17 grandchildren, Justin and Jonathan Proffitt, Matthew, Nicole, Daniel and Rachel Proffitt, Jillian, Emily and Andrew Proffitt, Ryan, Michael, Kevin and Stacey Proffitt and Jaime, Rebecca, Shannon and Brittany McCormick; three sister-in-laws Alice Sullivan of Auburn, MA, Natalie Sullivan of Seattle, WA, Catherine Sullivan of Worcester, MA; a very special cousin Sheila O'Gara and her husband Robert of Hyannis, MA; three brother-in-laws, Joseph Hehir of Northboro, MA, George Proffitt of Coventry, RI and Kenneth Proffitt of Worcester, MA; many cousins, some of whom reside in Killarney, Ireland, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Peter, Neil and William Sullivan and her sister Helen Hehir
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 21, 2011, 9:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St to Church of the Epiphany for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Resource Center of Connecticut in Plantsville, CT.
