Obituary of Thomas DeSantis
CHESHIRE- Thomas M. DeSantis, 90, passed away Saturday August 13, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was the husband of Lorraine (Thorn) DeSantis.
Mr. DeSantis was born February 9, 1921 in Waterbury the son of the late Aniello and Louisa (Carpentieri) DeSantis. He was attended Waterbury schools and lived in Cheshire for the last 40 years.
He was an eyelet tooling engineer and consultant for many Waterbury companies. He was a WWII Army Veteran and was an avid hockey fan who played semi-pro in his youth. He enjoyed gardening at his Cape Cod home where he was a summer resident for over 20 years. He was a communicant of St. Bridget Church in Cheshire, where he was an usher for 15 years. In March 2011, he received the St. Joseph Medal of Appreciation for his volunteer work at the church.
The family would like to thank his physician, Dr. David Domenichini, of West Hartford and the VNA HOPE Hospice Team for their wonderful care. The family would also like to thank Thomas' two home health aides, Rosenda Hall and Mary Phillips for their dedication and support throughout the last few months.
Thomas will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and especially Bridget, his loyal Standard Poodle.
Besides his wife, Mr. DeSantis is survived by his daughters Carole and Sandra with whom he made his home in Cheshire; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday August 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Queen of Peace Mausoleum. There are no calling hours.
