Obituary of Frederick Haas

NAUGATUCK- Mr. Frederick K. Haas, 68, of Naugatuck, passed away Friday Sept. 16, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Gail (Kenyon) Haas. Fred was born in Shamokin, PA., Jan. 13, 1943, a son of the late Lee and Mary (Hager) Haas and had been a Naugatuck resident for over 65 years. He was educated in the local school system. He was a retired employee of Cole Screw Machine Products, retiring in 2005 with over 28 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, service during the Vietnam Conflict. He served with the Seabee's in Mobile Construction Battalion-4 in and around Dak-To. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Navy Combat Action Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Sharp Shooter Medal and the Purple Heart Medal. Fred was a member and Past-Commander of Crusader Post 1946, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was also a member of American Legion Post 17, the Waterbury Area Vietnam Veterans Assoc. and had been active with the former Veterans Who Care Committee and the Naugatuck Veterans Council. Besides his wife of 39 years, he leaves a daughter, Kristen Keeler and her husband, Allen, a son, Rick Haas all of Naugatuck; a brother Lee Haas of Apache Junction, AZ. and his close friends Ed and Linda Kazimir of Naugatuck, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Janet Keating. A memorial service will be held on Sunday Oct. 2, 22011 at 2 p.m. at Crusader Post # 1946, V.F.W. , 239 Rubber Ave., Naugatuck.. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
