Obituary of Theodore C. Kraus

CHESHIRE – Theodore C. Kraus, 93, passed away Saturday August 9, 2014 at Elim Park in Cheshire. He was the husband of Patricia (Cowie) Kraus. Mr. Kraus was born October 9, 1920 in Heusenstamm, Germany, the son of the late Karl and Christina (Wenz) Kraus. At the age of 4, Mr. Kraus immigrated to the U.S. where he lived in the Mid-West before moving to Cheshire with his wife in 1960. He was a WWII Veteran serving his country in the U.S. Army. He was a Research Chemist for the Olin Corporation until his retirement in 1991. Throughout his years in Cheshire Mr. Kraus was very active in the community, serving on the Cheshire Board of Education; assisting with the Cheshire Food Bank as well as the Literacy Volunteers at the Cheshire Correctional Facility. He was an avid Gardener and a longtime member of the Cheshire Rotary Club. He was a Communicant of St. Bridget Church where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Santa Fe Council #2978. Besides his wife of 58 years, Mr. Kraus is survived by his children Michael and his wife Kelly of Naugatuck, Martin and his wife Carolyn of Cheshire, Richard and his wife Monika of Harwinton, Julianne Kraus of Plantsville and Daniel and his wife Dina of Franklin, TN; his nine grandchildren Lauren, Rachel, Kelsey, Raegan, Nicholas, Jessica, Rebecca, Harrison and Maxwell; and his great grandchild Caleb. He is predeceased by his brother Alphonse. Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 13, 2014, 9:15 from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 S. Main St. to St. Bridget Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
