Obituary of John R. Haigh
John Russell “Jack” Haigh, 93, of Naugatuck, passed away Thursday morning Aug. 28, 2014 at the Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Frances (Whan) Haigh.
Jack was born in Seymour, May 21, 1921, a son of the late Edward and Margaret (Butler) Haigh and was a Naugatuck resident most of his life. He was educated in the local school system and retired in 1979 from Uniroyal-Footwear Division, where he had worked for over 38 years. Jack was a U.S. Army Air Corps. Veteran of WW II, having served with the 397th Air Service Squadron-39 Eng. Battalion-CBT. He was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and the Conn. State Service Medal.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Naugatuck, a member of Shepherd-Salem Lodge # 78 A.F. & A.M.; the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Waterbury; the Lafayette Consistory, 32 degree, Valley of Bridgeport; the Pyramid Shriners; the former Naugatuck Shine Club; the Masonic Veteran’s Assoc. and a member of the CBT Veteran’s Assoc. of Conn. He was also a member and Past Patron of the former Evergreen Chapter # 22, Order of the Eastern Star and had served as Dad Advisor to the Naugatuck Assembly, International Order of Rainbow for Girls for over 38 years and had served on the State Executive Committee for over 17 years. He had served as a Little League Baseball Coach and had been a member of the Tuesday night golf league at the Hop Brook Golf course for a number of years. He was a fan of both the men and women’s UCONN basketball teams. The family would like to thank Team 3 at the Waterbury Hospital for the wonderful care they provided to Jack and his family while he was a patient there.
Besides Fran, his wife of over 70 years, he leaves two daughters, Evelyn MacIntosh and her husband William of Sparks, NV and Barbara Giordano and her husband Carl of Oakville; two grandchildren, Amy Ray and her husband Joseph and Douglas MacIntosh and his wife Chloe and two great-grandchildren Jacob Ray and Mason MacIntosh and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves the Kaeser kids who were like family to him. He was predeceased by his 9 Brothers and Sisters.
A private family service will be held with burial in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is assisting the family with the arrangements.
