Obituary of Kenneth H. Hall
CHESHIRE – Kenneth H. "Bud" Hall, 86, passed away peacefully Wednesday September 24, 2014 at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden. He was the husband of the late Maureen C. Hall.
Mr. Hall was born December 29, 1927 in Waterbury, the son of the late Samuel Foote and Lois Welton Hall. He was a lifelong Cheshire resident where he was active with the Cheshire Rotary Club as well as the Hamden B.P.O.E. Lodge 2224. He was a longtime educator for the Town of Cheshire, retiring in 1992. Mr. Hall is a direct descendant of one of Cheshire's founding families.
Mr. Hall attended both Hillhouse High School and Cheshire Academy and was a 1954 graduate of Springfield College where he wrestled and played football and hockey. After graduating from Springfield he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers playing during the 1954 season. He then entered the Army and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Upon his discharge from the Army Mr. Hall returned to Cheshire and began his long career in the Cheshire schools.
Mr. Hall taught U.S. History and coached many Cheshire High School teams including the football, track, and field hockey teams. He served as the Town of Cheshire's Parks and Recreation director and as Cheshire High School's Athletic Director. He was also among a group of five who founded Cheshire Junior Football in 1967.
In 1968 he became a Vice Principal at Cheshire High School, remaining in that position until 1988 when he returned to classroom, again teaching history but now to middle school students at Dodd Junior High School. In his retirement Mr. Hall enjoyed traveling with his wife Maureen and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Hall is survived by his daughter Kathleen (Hall) Gersowitz and her husband Robert of Slingerlands, New York; his son Matt Hall and his wife Lisa of Cheshire; his sister Barbara Voegeli of Cheshire; his sisters-in-law Irene Hall of Cheshire, Adele Gorham of North Branford and Joanne Melanson of Westfield, Mass., as well as his five grandchildren Sam, Mari, Katie, Adam and Emily. He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Maureen C. (Ryan) Hall, and by his brother Roger.
Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Dr. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. Memorial contributions may be made to The Mari Hall Family Foundation, P.O.
