Obituary of Millicent A. Ford
NAUGATUCK- Miss Millicent A. Ford, 82 of Naugatuck, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning Oct 30, 2014, at her home.
Miss Ford was born in Waterbury, March 18, 1932, a daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Kondrotas) Ford and was educated in the Naugatuck school system. She was a graduate of New Haven High School Class of 1949, and graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Bachelor of Science in pre-Med. She received two, one year scholarships to study at Laval University in Quebec, Canada, and the following year at the University of Grenoble in France, studying English and French Literature.
From 1953 through 1957 she was a Certified Cytotechnologist at Yale University in New Haven, and then in the same capacity as a research fellow at Cornell University in New York City from 1957 through 1963. She also received an Associate in Arts from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City in 1959. In 1963, she attended the University of Conn. at Storrs where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and her Master degree in the folios of Shakespearian history. She began her teaching career in the Naugatuck school system at Naugatuck High School in 1967 and attained her 6th year certificate from Southern State University in 1968. She spent her entire teaching career in the English department, at the High School, retiring in 1996 after 29 years of service. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
She leaves five cousins, John W. Ford of Naugatuck, James W. Ford of Colchester, Marsha Orzech of Hadlyme, Denise Hendrix of Corona, CA, and Lorna Sherry of Pompano Beach, FL.
Her funeral will be held on Monday Nov. 3, 2014, at 10:15 am from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. and proceed to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Burial will be private in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis School Foundation, P.O. Box 292, Naugatuck, 06770-0292.
