Obituary of Floyd H. Gensler

MIDDLEBURY- Floyd H. Gensler Jr., 86, a long time Middlebury resident passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Joyce (Leaman) Gensler. He was born September 10, 1928 in Waterbury son of the late Floyd H. Sr. and Correnda (Blansfield) Gensler. Floyd was educated in local schools. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served on border patrol at the German-Czechoslovakian border for 15 months. It was in 1941 that Floyd first set foot on The Country Club of Waterbury. The first three times he chased golf balls for members taking golf lessons, earning 40 cents per hour. When he finally caddied and carried his first golf bag, who would ever imagine this would be the start of his 53 year career at the Club. Floyd went from caddying, to cleaning golf clubs in the golf shop, becoming caddy master in 1944, and then appointed to assistant golf professional in 1948 at age 20. In 1964 Arthur Guiltbalt, senior golf professional retired and Floyd assumed the role. Floyd was the senior golf professional from 1963 to 1993, and recently received a congratulatory card for his 60 year membership in the PGA. The family would like to thank John Cookson, Bob Tetrault, the Yatsenick family, Dr. Victor Chang and staff from The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, VITAS Hospice staff, and their caring neighbors for their help and support. Besides his loving wife of 61 years Floyd is survived by two daughters Kathleen Gensler and her husband Kenneth Dalton of Vail, AZ, and Lori Gensler of Waterbury.
