Obituary of Maria Goretti Fonseca

NAUGATUCK – Maria (Goretti) Fonseca, 61, passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side. She was the wife of Avelino (Lino) Fonseca. Goretti was born December 15, 1953 in Vassal, Portugal, the daughter of the late Americo and Carmen (Gomes) Nobre. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident and worked for Untied Technologies for many years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Besides her husband, "Lino", of 43 years, Goretti is survived by her children Victor Fonseca of Jersey City, New Jersey and Paula Nelson and her husband Shane Nelson of Burlington, CT. She shared a loving relationship with her grandchildren Jeffrey, Brandon, Victoria, Sophia, Gavin and Logan. Goretti is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: Aninhas Medeiros and her husband Guilhermenio of Palm Coast, Florida; Rosa Pinto and her husband Joao of Naugatuck; Manuel Nobre and his wife Lourdes of Naugatuck; Ceu Pinto and her husband Joao of France and Carlos Nobre and his wife Isabel of France. She is also survived by an extended family of brothers and sisters-in-law: Delfine Fonseca of Portugal; Carlos and Auresia Coreixas of Naugatuck; Almiro and Albina Da Fonseca of Prospect; Alberto and Almira Sotelo of Naugatuck; Aderito and Armanda Fonseca of Danbury; Jose and Elizabeth Fonseca of Watertown and Carlos and Odette Gregoco of Portugal. She is also survived by 25 adoring nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Thursday January 22, 2015, 9 a.m. from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. to Our Lady of Fatima Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, www.stjude.org.
