Dear Kirsten & Bryan, I am so sorry for your loss. While I know that you are hearing this a lot, your Dad was a great man. His smile and laugh were contagious and he was not too busy to stop and share a moment of conversation. I last saw him at my Dad's wake & funeral and last June and as always he reached out to me to make sure that Iwas ok. He wanted me to know that while we were hurtingt in that moment that my Dad was not anymore. That he was at peace physically and also at peace with the each of us. That Dad loved us for who we have become and was proud of us. I believe that Ev felt the same way about both of you. While he loved you all very much and would have loved to be here with you still he is at rest. The physical pain of daily life is gone and the spirit is free. He is proud of each of you and the individuals that you have become. He knows that while the pain of your loss will fade that he will always be a part of thye very core of who you are. That he does truly live on in your hearts and minds. His life has touched so many and we are all better people for having known him. His generosity and zest for life enriched all around him. I love you both as sister & brother and I know that there is now a lonely void in your heart thst numbs your soul. It will slowly fade and be replaced with the loving realization that your life has blessed by him. God has given you the gift of time with your Dad. The gift of learning lessons both good and bad shape us in ways that can take a lifetime to discern. Give yourself time to grieve and celebrate not only his life and his humanity but also that his race is complete. He has fought the good fight and now he is at rest. Our love and best wishes go out to you and your families.

There are many stories I have of Ev. But one sticks out:
He was the first one who looked in my eyes after our first visit in Sedona Arizona who said "There may be a book here, about your grandfather". He was referring to my father's dad, Donald A. Hall, who designed the Spirit of St. Louis with Charles Lindbergh in 1927. He later wrote the introduction for my book, developed as my friend, and became an invaluable resource for learning who my Grandfather really was. He and I collaborated with him seeing and having access to parts of the DAH collection that the Smithsonian still doesn't know exists, so he could finally complete the book he had been working on for 40 years. United by the second most famous airplane in history, I miss him already and will not give up my quest to find a ideal location for the archive of research and knowledge he collected. I gave him my word before he died, and I hope to fulfill that so the public can see how complete his archive is. Ev literally changed my life, and I am eternally grateful for it.
Rest in Peace dear friend.

My heartfelt sympathy to Ginger, Ev's family and to the many friends Ev made in his many-faceted life. The thought of Ev, with his thousand watt grin and infectious, madcap energy, will always give me a lift. I enjoyed Scottish country dancing with him and occasionally seeing him at the Irish Club in the late eighties and early nineties, and, up until about ten years ago, around the Yale campus. In more recent years, he would appear unexpectedly at various events in the New Haven area, always bursting with his wonderful zany humor and exuberant optimism. He was always a delight to talk to, a big-hearted man who led a big life. I had known that he was a highly accomplished pilot and author, but it is only in the last few days that I have learned of the other extraordinary and wide-ranging achievements with which he filled his whole life. Brilliant, multi-talented, fearlessly adventurous and irrepressibly funny, he used his gifts and energy not only to live his own dreams, but also to inspire others with the confidence to live theirs. Ev was a star who made the people around him feel that they too were stars.

Ev's enthusiasm for everything he did (and that was a lot) was so inspiring! Yes, he was a "character", but also a gentleman. Ev was a friend and one of my favorite dance partners for many years. Contra dancing just isn't going to be the same without him! I will miss him. My condolences to Ginger and his family....

My deepest condolences go to Ginger and Ev's family.
I met Ev only a few months ago at the Branford Contra dance. Our first encounter was so kind: he told me all these wonderful stories about flying his planes all over the country so he could go Contra dancing anywhere.
Even during this first conversation, Ev asked me many questions about myself and why a young person like me was living in Connecticut. As a recent resident to Connecticut, he was kind enough to make sure I knew which dances to go to in the area.
I was unable to attend the Branford Contras for a few months, but when I came back, Ev was the only one who remembered me; he was full of smiles and he asked me how my jobs were going (I was so touched he remembered all the details of my life, even though we had only met once before!). It was inspiring to see how much he loved dancing, and how he would still attend the dances even when he couldn't physically participate.
I wanted to express how much of an impression Ev had on me. I deeply admired how he pursued his passions throughout his entire life. Both his joie de vivre and commitment to dance and flying are exemplary and admirable. For those who were blessed to have him in their life for many years, my heart goes out to you all.

Ev. is a true American Patriot, a streight shooter, a man of character, easy to like, and easyily befriended by him. Ev was an all around likeable human being that lived a varied and full life up to the last day. Ev, you will be missed by many, and I appreciate the blessing of having known you. My condolances to your family. Life moves on and you have just moved on to the next phase. May God Bless you and your family.

Bryan and Kristen, My deepest condolences on the passing of your father. Even to this day I still remember him walking around in church with a smile on his face and in his heart. Do your best to remember the good times you've had with him over the years and that will help with the pain of his passing.

I'm so thankful we were able to spend last New Year's with Ev and Ginger, dancing and carrying on in all manner of fun. I remember how hard it was for us to keep up with him on the road as we dashed through rural CT finding our way to BMAD. It was a wonderful new adventure he couldn't wait to show us. He gave me my first bodhran lesson with twinkling eyes that showed his love of sharing his special gifts. I couldn't help but think how hard it must be for this winged spirit to stay grounded on our planet with such a thirst for life and the wild blue yonder. I'm so sad for those who have lost him but happy he's now soaring freely in the clouds.

My dearest memories of Ev include making madcap mayhem at the contras- clucking like chickens, twisting our facial expressions into faux sneers as we passed in the line, and creating general chaos as needed.
He was a fabulous waltz dancer and taught me the proper way to "dip" at the end.
His warmth, vibrance, talent, sense of humor, and love of dance and music were both inspiring and endearing.
We all will miss him so.

I am sorry to hear of Ev's passing. As Ev's barber for the past 30 years, I always looked forward to him coming to the shop and talking about flying, of which he spoke of with a passion. I will never forget when he took me flying in his plane and we flew over my house! It was an amazing experience and I am truly grateful for it.I will miss him but never forget him. I send my condolences to his family and may the fondest of memories embrace you during this difficult time.

Ev was a wonderful, sweet, down-to earth person. I loved contra dancing with him, but I especially loved to waltz with him. He was a wonderful role model to all of us on how to live life to the fullest and love every moment we are given. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, with Ginger and with the dance community. I will miss you, Ev.
