Obituary of John Philip Edwards

John Philip Edwards, "Jack", the loving husband of Dallas Mae Edwards for the past 70 years was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on Father's Day, Sunday June 21, 2015 at his home in Cheshire. John was born on November 30, 1920 in Hartford, Ct., son of the late William John and Helen Margaret (Robinson) Edwards. He was a graduate of Wethersfield High School, Boston University and the Naval Officer Training School at Columbia University. John served his country with pride and honor with the US Navy as a Beach Jumper during WWII in North Africa, Europe and the Pacific. He resigned his commission as a full Lieutenant in 1950. After the war, John went on to work in Wethersfield as the Tax Collector, in Groton as the Director of Finance, and in Danbury for 20 years as the Comptroller/Director of Finance. He retired in 1985. John was an avid sailor who enjoyed many summers on Money Island in the Thimbles and was a devout Catholic, who most recently become a parishioner at St. Thomas Becket Church in Cheshire. John was the devoted father to six children, grandfather to fifteen and great grandfather to seven - all of whom he "loved with a passion." He will be missed by many, especially his immediate family and his brother and nephew and niece. "He was my soul mate, my companion and my husband, my Dad, my grandpa, my "empa": our mentor, our role model, our hero and our friend. There will be a hole in our hearts, but we will be forever blessed to have had him in our lives. He will be "missed with a passion". A Memorial Service for John will be held at St. Thomas Becket Church in Cheshire on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 11AM. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire has been entrusted with his arrangements.
