Obituary of Lois Carney

SOUTHBURY- Lois (Cameron) Carney, 88, beloved wife of Edwin F. Carney, passed away peacefully at the Lutheran Home of Southbury on Tuesday June 30, 2015 after a long illness. She was born on October 15, 1927 to the late James and Dorothy (Wilmot) Cameron of Waterbury, CT. Until recently, Lois and Edwin resided in Warren, CT in the home they built after they retired 30 years ago. Lois graduated from Wilby High School in Waterbury and worked as a secretary for Waterbury Buckle Co. prior to and after raising her family until her retirement in 1985. After recovering from polio as a young child, Lois became an accomplished athlete, an excellent swimmer, bowler and she enjoyed hiking and camping with her family well into her retirement. She served as a den mother in Cub Scouts for many years and as a Sunday school teacher at the Oakville Congregational Church. During her retirement, Lois served as a Municipal Agent for the Elderly in the Town of Warren and was also active in the Warren Prime Timers for many years. Lois is survived by Edwin her devoted husband of 67 years. Besides her husband she is survived by her three children, Keith Carney and his wife Diane of Brookfield, CT; S. Michael Carney of Thomaston, CT; and Patricia Sarvis and her husband Sam of Bangkok, Thailand; a sister Margaret Lasky of Northfield, CT; five grandchildren, Patrick Carney and his wife Shelly, Sean Carney, Luke Sarvis, Rachel Sarvis and Joshua Sarvis and his wife Karina; two great grandchildren, Rowan Carney and April Sarvis; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Thomas J. Carney, a brother Robert Cameron and a sister Ruth Barrie. The family would like to express their appreciation for the excellent and compassionate care she received at the Lutheran Home of Southbury and to the special caregivers who made it possible for Lois to remain in her own home during her long illness. Arrangements- A graveside service for Lois will be held at the New Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Avenue, Waterbury, CT 06710 is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut, 200 Executive Blvd, Southington, CT 06489 or to the charity of one’s choice.
